In the U.S., healthcare workers and nursing home residents are being vaccinated today against COVID-19. An intensive care nurse in New York was one of the first people in the U.S. to be given the Pfizer vaccine outside of a clinical trial.
A new variant of coronavirus was identified in the U.K. and is growing faster in some parts of England, government officials have been told. London is likely to shut down again as COVID-19 cases are growing.
ICU beds are near capacity across the nation as COVID-19 surges. In Texas, just over 672 beds were available in ICUs compared to 2,100 beds in April. In the San Joaquin Valley in California, only 1.5% of ICU beds were still available.
